It is common to see dogs peeing on telegraph poles in Japan. When other dogs are nearby these telegraph poles, they are able to use their sense of smell to communicate with others. By marking on their existence, dogs create their own territories through their urinal marking onto objects in the streets. I became interested in this instinctual behavior of ‘marking’ that is not as easy for people to do. In this piece I used charcoal to mark numbers 1-60, marking my existence onto familiar streets and parks.

犬は散歩中おしっこをし、他の犬がその匂いを嗅ぐことで、彼らは自己に関する情報を交換する。私は、本能から自らの存在を他者に伝える彼らの行為に惹かれる。その行為は人間にとって、簡単に出来ることではないからである。数字の1-60という、時間の概念を表す数字を使って、自分にとって身近である、または身近であった場所に私は自らの跡を残した。
